Looking for mechanic in the Portland Oregon area for prebuy

Postby Terry Schroeder » Sun Jul 08, 2012 12:49 pm

Hello all, I am a new member and prospective first time airplane owner.

I am currently in negotiations to purchase a 180 (N7669P) based at UAO south of Portland. The owner has had it for many years and from the photos I have seen, it is a beautiful well maintained bird. I need a Comanche expert in the area to do a prebuy in the next few weeks.

Can anyone recommend someone in that area?

Thanks in advance for your help

Call Danny Stark at Stark's Twin Oaks, just a short hop from UAO (my home base). Stark's have a family run airport that is an area institution. They maintain quite a few Comanches and have a really nice 250 on their rental line. WWW.Twinoaksairpark.com, 503-628-2817. Danny will give you an honest opinion and do a great job for you. If you need flight instruction from a Comanche savvy CFI, Starks can do that too.

When you come out to pick up your new plane, give a holler, we'll grab coffee or a meal.

Have him check the structure under the floorboards where the nutplates for the screws that hold down the seat rails are attached. The last three I looked at had cracks around the nutplates under the outboard seat rail in the next to aft position. One aircraft, a 180, had cracks there and the one forward, on both pilot and copilot outboard rails. You have to get under with a videoscope to see it through one of the inspection panels in the floor boards.

Thanks Kristen, I will make sure I discuss that with him as well. THAT is exactly why I joined this forum BEFORE buying my bird!
