Lasar ignition

Lasar ignition

Postby Jim Beattie » Wed Jan 25, 2012 1:26 am

My system just started recently to cut out on every flight at about 2000 ft asl. The system tests fine on the ground and resets after Each flight
Any ideas as hard to find anyone that works on these systems in southern Ontario Canada

Been there, done that. You can send the controller unit to Champion in SC, USA, and they will run a diagnostic test on the unit at no charge. I would be willing to bet the unit has failed. There are no replacements available. You might find one sitting on a shelf somewhere at an outrageous price, but it's not worth it. I ended up putting in two new Slick mags, and a SlickStart. Engine runs just as smooth, and frankly I cannot see or feel any difference between the LASAR system versus the mags. If you are running a 4 cylinder O-360, the correct mags are 4370 and 4347.

If you can find someone that has the cable that connects the controller to a computer, you can (maybe) read the fault codes. I used to have that equipment, but I sold it all when I got rid of the LASAR system. I don't know how old your LASAR is, but mine was about 11 years old when it quit.

You can contact Joe Logie at Champion directly at 904 772 1909. No one knows more about LASAR. He's the expert and will arrange for you to send in the controller, if that's what you want to do.
