AeroLEDs Anyone?

AeroLEDs Anyone?

Postby Pat Donovan » Wed Sep 07, 2011 7:03 pm

Has anyone installed (gotten a 337) for the AeroLED landing lights? I blew my Q4509 on the way home from Savannah and was considering replacing both bulbs plus installing a wing-wag function. One option is to use the Whelen STC'ed bulbs with the STC'ed MaxPulse controller for a total cost of about $720. This would require the replacement of both existing landing light switches with a larger unit, but minimal additional wiring.

The second option is to use the AeroLED lights which would require a 337 approval. The existing switches could be used as the units have a built-in wing-wag; one switch would turn on both lights full time and the other switch would turn on wing-wag. Some new wiring would be needed between the bulbs. Don't know how difficult running the wiring might be. Total cost about $780.

Everyone,

Had an email from AeroLEDs regarding the SunSpot 36 and they indicate the STC and PMA for our aircraft is expected to be signed in October. Thus these should then be a an easy install from the paperwork perspective. All that would remain is linking them together (via pulling wire) to obtain the wing-wag capability.

Don't know why you would need to pull wire, as the bulbs are individually switched, it should be a simple behind the panel mod.

Zach,

Looking at the online wiring diagram, one light becomes the master and the other becomes the slave to synchronize the winking and blinking. The slave wire runs between the two lamps on a different pin than the normal power supply. Considering the low current draw, I was going to use one existing switch for both lamps on and the other existing switch for winking/blinking.
