PA30 prop balance

Where is the best place to put the weights when bal pa30 props rear spinner bulkhead(heavy) or ring gear?

I used the ring gear when I did ours.

Adamantly opposed to anything on bulkhead.

Hartzell has places for these nothing should need to be drilled at all. A shop once told me they had to drill the starter ring. And they declined to give me before and after readings. That to me demonstrated a lack of knowledge so I went elsewhere.

Tommy, keep looking someone will do it right.
Mom and sister lost a bulkhead and spinner off the right engine while in flight - it is worth the effort.
Used to lose a backplate about every 50 hours of 2700 rpm operation.
Granted Mom got Hartzell to build a beefier backplate and we haven't had a bulkhead problem since but I am not interested in the perils. The first one put a hole int eh windshield, dented the leading right corner above co-pilot and put a crease in the vertical portion of the tail.

Sort of makes me wonder about that pa30 on the way to kosh, could be part of the chain? god rest his soul.I have seen that sort of thing bring an airplane down in the past.

Definitely should not be drilling holes in anything. There are holes already in the ring gear for this exact purpose.

And for those of you who keep getting cracks in your metal spinner backplates, the carbon fiber ones are worth the money.
