Fuel drain tray

Fuel drain tray

Postby Andres Darvasi » Sat Nov 02, 2013 6:32 pm

Since I bought the Comanche, I was trying to find a more comfortable system to drain the fuel tanks.
During annual at Clifton Aero, I asked Tim Talley if he knew of a better method that crawling under the aircraft, he mentioned that Pat Keefer had made a tray with a cord that she manipulated with the tow bar.
That got me thinking and yesterday I went to Walmart and bought an aluminum baking pan, made two holes on one of the handles to coincide with the tow bar prongs, and it works like a charm.
Here is a picture, hoping it could be useful to some that are still crawling under.
If you have a better system, PLEASE let me know.

I'm flattered that Tim would think I was that clever - I actually just push a 30 Qt shallow flattish sterlite container from WalMart and then pull it back out. I dump the fuel into the powertow for the twin as that is easily than trying to get it back in the plane.

Pat, do you carry that container in the aircraft?

No, it is too big for my taste for that. I do carry a plastic two cup measuring cup with me for those places where draining on ramp is frowned upon or if I'm in a hangar. Then it does take two, me underneath and usually Ken in cockpit.
