Postby Alejandro Cantarini » Tue Jul 30, 2013 2:08 am

Just got quote 15000 for a white and 2 stripes paint on the old boy, seems like really high, I want to paint the plane with part off not looking for a cheap job but not looking to spend 40% of the value of the plane on a paint job, any pointers or recommendations ?

Where are you? Neighbors in the airpark have used a shop in SW FL that does a good job on a couple of planes at a competitive price. They recently quoted $10K for a Twin Comanche - full strip, etch and alodyne, prime and paint white plus one color trim.

Maurice passed several years ago. The paint shop is in Arcadia, FL. I painted my Aztec 3 years ago in my hangar. I did all the strip and prep myself and hired a pro to shoot the paint. The strip part of the project to almost a month. I took the whole thing to bare metal, and the etched and alodined. We used a DuPont aircraft primer and Imron for paint. It was a lot of work!

Always fun to see progress.

Be sure to label the inspection panels when removed so you can get them back to the same location
