Re-chrome for Struts

Just heard from WebCo that they are apparently not doing re-chroming of Comanche struts any longer. I have a 180 and need to re-chrome all three struts, (p/n 207798-06 left, p/n 207798-07 right and p/n 21716-00 nosegear). Aerospace Coatings is quoting $550 each; if they dont wind up red tagging a strut, that is. That's about double what I have been planning on for the last couple of years.

Does anyone have another source for re-chroming?

Several years ago, one of main gear struts on my PA30 went flat. The airplane has 6500 hours, with lots of landings on non paved airports. The struts have a few nicks and the seals were the originals in the 1964 airplane. I searched for re chrome people and found that it was going to put the airplane out of service for quite a while while waiting for parts rechrome to be done. We smoothed a couple of knicks with emery cloth and installed new seals. 250 hours later, and I have had no problems with leaking struts.

Might be worth a try.

Space Coast Plating in Florida is owned by David Pratt, a Comanche guy. He does these.

I just talked to Bob Weber and he has a PMA to make the struts. Give them a call and see if they have some made, and if not ask when thay will be doing them.

Interesting, my mechanic and I each got the answer that they don't do struts anymore, and we just bought the kit to reseal the struts from Webco. Seems to be some variance in answers to the question.

We wound up just sealing the struts.
