337 for Navajo Yokes?

Sorry Kristin, should have remembered Maggie's yokes. I've never flown any Piper twins except for Senecas and Twinkies, by accident I ended up in twin Cessnas, but I've always wanted to check out the bigger guys. Everybody I've ever talked to loves Navajos.

Here is a picture comparing the two. The installed yoke is in a Navajo, and the one I am holding below it is the PA24/30/39 PN. The are in fact close to the same width at the botom, but the Comanche style has a very different angle to the vertical components.

My AP/AI used the above posted 337 as a reference for the 337 used to approve the Navajo yokes that I had installed years ago. The Memphis TN inspector did not accept the 337 saying Piper Drawing No. 22988 did not show anything supporting installation of the Navajo yokes in a Comanche. The 337 below is what he accepted for installation of Navajo yokes in the Comanche.

Without researching it, I would have said that replacing the yokes was a minor alternation and only needed a logbook entry.

I would imagine that would depend on how broadly you define "flight control system". IND FSDO says its the same as changing a aileron actuator to a different type, as the yoke is directly links to the flight control power source. I countered that since the pilot was the power source, that a pilot change therefore needed a field approval using their logic....based on my 4 ply tire issue, I bet you know who won the argument.....

A gray area. If you want to mess with them, you can take them a 337 to change the yoke medallion to a more recent version and see what they think about that.

I was just trying to make sure I had everything covered fully for all the additions I’ve added over the years. Someone may not have accepted a log book entry for the Navajo yokes.

I don't blame you. That is the safe play. It seems like IA's come in two flavors -- those that are afraid of everything and want maximum paper work and those who have never looked at a Type Certificate Data Sheet in their lives and will sign anything.
