In the PA-30, does one have to convert both sides?
Converting only one side to an alternator would
seem to have similar benefits and lower cost.
Thanks,

Turi,

One needs approved data to change from generators to alternators. Typically this is done with a Supplemental Type Certificate. There are several, but to my knowledge, all require the replacement of both.

Theoretically, one could obtain a field approval to replace just one. However, I think that your chances of getting the FAA to approve such, are not good. You may also have practical problems in arranging a paralleling system that would work with both.

Kristin,

Thanks for the clarification. Regarding the install (for two), I think someone mentioned 16hrs. Does this seem about right for labor?

Turi,
16 hrs is abit steep. It can be done in about half that by someone who has done it before.
