Owner provided/made part

Owner provided/made part

Postby Tony Scarpelli » Thu May 08, 2008 6:29 pm

hello,

I recently found out about an ability an owner has to have a part made of his own air craft.

In general it is better to buy authorized parts, or have parts IRAN-ed or OH to put on our air craft but occationally there comes a time when a part is not easily found.

You can make the part yourself, or direct someone to make the part for you. To be legal you need to provide the material or design or drawings and give input to the part being made.

This part can then be put onto your Comanche.

I would like feed back from others who have done this?

To add to the question.
Can I provide someone the original drawing from Piper if I have the authority to use it to make a part for me to the drawing?

Yes. Next question... :-) The rule states that the part must be as good as or better than the original, so, if making one from the original plans, of the same material, I would say that deternining that it was as good as the original would be a slam dunk!

Well I have a lot of the drawings I guess now all I need to do is get Piper to let me use them..... Hummm. I think that may be a problem.

Generally using milspec materials will be considered as good.

I had a gasket made with milspec materials.
