Adopted a 2 year old, 90 lb Yellow Lab about 5 years ago. Flew from Detroit to Kankakee to pick her up. The return flight was fine, but I could not help but wonder what would happen if this dog, which I had no history with, decided she did not like to fly as it was now dark and it was just her and I.

My parents have two labs that fly in their Cherokee without a problem. They do however use the special dog harnesses that loop through the seat belts for safety - both for the dogs and themselves.

There's a bulldog rescue at my airport. I'm told they fly routinely, and well. Usually they test with benadryl for anxiety, but i'm told most dogs just go to sleep when the engines start... sounds, hum, vibrations...haven't done it myself.

We take our Aussie, Maggie, on alot of our trips. She is a trooper on all flights, goes to sleep and usually wakes up on decent into the destination airport. Take it easy on decents though, last week flying into Mt. Pleasant , MI (KMOP) Maggie let me know I was decending too fast for her liking I got a nudge in my shoulder on approach to ease up a little.
Cheers,
