Panel Lighting, LED's? Bezels?

Alan, if you can make that EL lighting work under the labels, I think you might need to make some kits and sell them! That would be just outstanding.

You can go to http://www.sptpanel.com/ for thier product info, and superiorpaneltechnology.com to make an order if you need to.

They make strips with whatever labels nyou want on them that uses the same light source as the gauge lights, I think thats what your looking for. STC'ed too. (see the "special offer" link, and at the bottom it has info about this, and you can see a picture of it on the pictures link. http://www.sptpanel.com/FiberLite%20Special%20Offer.htm)

Not only that, they also have a glowstrip glareshield lighting system, and a battery backup option for the whole panel.

Sorry, I have no idea what kind of glareshield strip light is in my aircraft as i didn't install it, and it may or may not be listed in my logs, i will check. It runs off the same dimmer as the rest of the panel though, and this I prob. would not recommend, and will change in the future.

Btw, the post lights im usuing for the rectangular engine instruments are whelen standard post lights, so they are not fiber optic.

Hi Nate,

Thanks for that info. I had seen them on the Aircraft Spruce site, but not as much info there. I was concerned about a single light source providing all the light and a failure of this light source resulting in a complete failure of the instrument lighting system. One of the reasons I wasn't so keen on the electroluminescent system as well.

It seems that there might be more than one light source for each system and also the light source is LED's and they are very reliable. Perhaps time for a rethink. I like the idea of lighting up the switch labels and the idea of a back up power supply.

Yup, mine has 11 instruments lit (or will be lit) with their system, with 3 light source LED's. If one went out, and you had extras on board, you could theoretically mount the sources at the very bottom of the panel and with a flashlight, change the bulb out very easily.
